There are some fantastic places to shop in Destin, and most are right down the road from one another. Regardless of where you decide to stay, chances are you won’t experience much longer than a 5 – 10 minute drive to the mall.
So, what are some malls in Destin, FL to shop at? Check out these malls and more!
The Destin Commons
If you’ve ever driven over the mid-bay bridge into Destin, you have probably seen the Destin Commons. It is a large outdoor mall with nearly every shop you could imagine – apparel, children’s boutiques, jewelry, toys, and more! There is a parking garage that you can park at if the parking around the Commons is full or you can’t find a place in front of the stores (which can be difficult in the summer months).
There are a ton of restaurants to choose from and there is also a movie theatre with IMAX screens and a Dolby Digital screening room. It is one of the best places to catch a movie in Northwest Florida.
Another thing that helps the Destin Commons stand out are the events. There are some great annual events, like the Halloween Haunt, the July 4th celebration – Smoke on the Coast, and the Christmas parade.
If you have kids, the Halloween Haunt is such a good time. Many of the stores give out candy to kids in costume and they even do a costume contest! My family goes every year and the kids really enjoy it.
Check out this list of events and happenings.
There is even a great play area for the kids and a small train you can ride on with the kids around the Commons.
Monday – Saturday | 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Sunday | 11:00 AM -7:00 PM
Silver Sands Outlet Mall in Sandestin
Another outdoor mall option, Silver Sands is east on Hwy 98 in Miramar Beach. It’s only 10 minutes down the road from the Destin Commons and is also right across from the condos and the beach.
They have a ton of stores, mostly ranging in apparel, kids apparel, watches, sunglasses, etc. They have more stores than the Destin Commons but they don’t have many places to eat. However, there are restaurants all around the complex that are just not attached to the mall.
If you’re military, they are currently offering a military discount at some stores until 2020 so look for the red, white, and blue stars posted on stores that are participating in the event. The discount is 10% off your total purchase.
There is an awesome interactive map of the area to help you find every store and how to get there.
Unfortunately, if you are looking for cool events to participate in, you will rarely find them at Silver Sands. Most of the events that run are just sales or specials across the outlets.
If you’re bringing the kids, they have a huge play area at the east end that is enclosed from traffic. It’s a great place to go if one of you needs to shop but the kids just don’t want to cooperate!
Regular hours are:
Monday – Saturday
A bit further east from the Silver Sands Outlet Mall in Sandestin, Grand Boulevard is also an outdoor shopping mall with restaurants, retail, hotels, and events.
If you are looking for specialty shops, Grand Boulevard has some high quality options – though there offerings are a bit pricier than the Destin Commons and Silver Sands Outlets. Here is a current list of their shops and a map to help you find them.
There are some great restaurants here – from chain restaurants to executive chef-owned, fine-dining. Check out Grand Boulevard’s current offerings here.
Like the Destin Commons, Grand Boulevard has some great events for the family. One unique activity is a drive-in movie theatre for golf carts. Due to the proximity of Grand Boulevard to Sandestin Resorts, golf carts are a common site and great way to get around. They even have adequate golf cart parking spaces!
You definitely have to check out the annual Festival of Trees. 12 non-profit organizations come in showcase a decorated tree. They are on display from Thanksgiving all the way to Christmas and you can even learn a bit about each organization at the tree.
If you love horse-drawn carriages, from 6-28 December you can catch them between 5 – 7 PM. My family and I have gotten a chance to ride and the kids loved it.
Here is a complete list of events.
