March in Destin FL: Weather, Events, Things to Do

Should I Visit Destin in March?

That depends!

March is a tricky month for Destin: the temperature is mild and it isn’t quite warm enough to swim in the water or truly enjoy the beach. A strong, windy day on the beaches of Destin in March can have you freezing (unless you are from a much colder climate and are used to it!).

March is also the pinnacle of spring break. College students will be flocking here (and if you’re a college student, now is the best time for you to come for events for that age group) and the beaches and roads will be packed. If you’re looking to visit the beach as a family, March is not the best month to visit Destin.

To summarize:

Are you a spring breaker?

Visiting Destin in March is a great option.

Are you visiting as a family?

The beaches, restaurants, and traffic will be congested so visiting in late April and beyond will be a wiser decision.

March Events in Destin

There are some fun events taking place in Destin in March.  Whether you are a spring breaker or are here with family, there is something for everyone.

Annual Tequila and Taco Festival

Destin’s Tequila and Taco Festival is an annual event that started as a shindig that took place in a restaurant but became so popular that a festival spawned, culminating with 3 days of fun!

It is hosted at a different venue every year but the 2020 location is at the Seascape Towne Center in Miramar Beach.

As you can probably guess, there will be plenty of tequila and tacos available through different vendors. And by plenty, I mean unlimited. Of course, there is an admission fee and tickets are $50 to $95 per person.

Even though tequila is involved, the kids are still welcome! There will be face painting, food, and more.

Unlimited tacos and tequila!

Mac and Cheese Festival

If you thought that the Taco and Tequila Festival might be hard to attend with kids, then the Mac and Cheese Festival is for you!

Imagine a place for local restaurants and chefs compete for the best macaroni and cheese? It sounds like a place I want to be at! You can’t lose, either.

The event benefits the Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for kids. If you want to compete, it is $100.

Wednesday Night Concert Series at Baytowne Wharf

Starting on March 4th and ending March 25th, the Wednesday Concert Series at Baytowne is a great event to sit back, relax, have a drink(s), and enjoy live music from 7-9 PM. The event takes place every Wednesday during that timeframe. Admission is free and open to the public! Make sure you bring a chair and a blanket as it can get chilly in the evenings.

This event actually runs through October but it begins in March.
